Could COGIC Holy Convocation be leaving Memphis? Well, the answer is: Maybe!
Bishop Brandon B. Porter took to his social media to appeal to leaders in Memphis and to warn them of the effects of not taking action.
Bishop Porter called out Memphis hotels and restaurants of perceived price gouging, whereby businesses hike up prices whenever Holy Convocation is in town.
He also expressed his frustration with hotels not giving the Church of God in Christ enough room blocks during Holy Convocation, forcing attendees to seek rooms that are not downtown near the Convention Center.
Allegedly, other cities such as St. Louis are willing to make concessions to have COGIC host their Holy Convocation in their city.
For the past few year, COGIC Holy Convocation has been held in Memphis, pumping the city with tens of millions in investment.
Memphis is also the worldwide headquarters for The Church of God in Christ.
Unfortunately, the city has been shaken recently due to crime and media coverage around the death of Tyre Nichols.
Now, the future of COGIC Holy Convocation in Memphis seems to be uncertain- unless Memphis government and business leaders address the grievances that COGIC leaders have highlighted.
