Bishop TD Jakes' vision to turn part of Southwest Atlanta into a vibrant housing district has stalled, and the community is now demanding answers.

Development at the Fort McPherson army base in Southwest Atlanta has come to a standstill as project partners and financial backers disagree on the vision.

In a letter to the government authority entrusted with catalyzing growth at Fort McPherson, Bishop, Jakes’ company stated that it has attempted to discuss revitalization, but negotiations have reached a stalemate.

Jakes’s company emphasized that it cannot proceed with the project until partners agree on a plan.

In 2021, Jakes’s company purchased 94 acres of the site as part of a joint venture with Tyler Perry.

In 2023, Bishop Jakes publicly announced a partnership with Wells Fargo to build affordable and mixed-use homes, restaurants and a new school on the site.

However, the community is still waiting for Bishop Jakes' vision to come to fruition.

The city has emphasized to Jakes’ team to show real progress or risk losing the project.

The plan was initially projected to be completed in 2028.
