Bishop William Barber II, renown civil rights leader, retires from pastoring

Bishop William J. Barber II has delivered his last sermon as pastor of Greenleaf Christian Church.


Barber has preached at the Goldsboro, North Carolina church for the last 30 years. The person succeeding Bishop Barber is female pastor, Rev. G. Shyrl Hinnant-Uzzell.


Bishop Barber is known for his crusade against income inequality and social justice. He is the leader of the Poor People’s Campaign and the Moral Monday protests.


Barber announced that he will be heading up the Yale Divinity School’s new Center for Theology and Public Policy to train the next generation of moral leadership.
