According to an autopsy report obtained by People magazine, Grammy Award-winning singer Mandisa died of complications from class III obesity.
Class III obesity is a disease in which a person "has a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or higher or a BMI of 35 or higher and is experiencing obesity-related health conditions," according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Typically, obesity isn’t listed as the cause of death on a death certificate. Her manner of death is listed as natural. However, weight-related health complications from obesity include life-threatening complications from obesity can include heart attack, heart failure, sudden cardiac death, stroke and pulmonary embolism.
It is unclear why the specific cause of death was not notated.
Mandisa had been open about her struggles with mental health, which led her to turn to food and gain a significant amount of weight.
The American Idol alum was found dead in her home on April 18th.
Mandisa was only 47 years old.
