The 115th Church of God in Christ Holy Convocation kicked off on Tuesday November 7th in Memphis, TN!
There was a midnight prayer session at the Historic Mason Temple, where members prayed for loved ones, for the city, and for a successful convocation.
Highlights from the first night of service included an appearance by TN Governor Bill Lee, who praised COGIC’s partnership with government in building affordable housing in Memphis. Bishop Darrell Hines delivered the closing message.
The Church of God in Christ is the largest Pentecostal denomination in the United States. Bishop J. Drew Sheard is the Presiding Bishop of the denomination.
Memphis is the headquarters for the Church of God in Christ. This is the second year in a row that Holy Convocation has been held in Memphis after an eleven year absence.
According to Memphis Tourism officials, the COGIC Holy Convocation is expected to bring in millions of dollars in revenue to the city. Several hotels are already filled to capacity to accommodate members.
Holy Convocation runs through Tuesday November 14th at the Memphis Renasant Convention Center.
