The Church Of God In Christ General Assembly has announced the reelection of Bishop J. Drew Sheard as Presiding Bishop!
The re-election will mark the second term for Bishop Sheard.
The vote by the General Assembly was an expression of confidence in his leadership and direction of the largest Black pentecostal denomination in the nation.
Bishop Sheard initially took office in 2021. He's the first Presiding Bishop since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under his leadership, the Church of God in Christ has grown in prominence with Bishop Sheard becoming a leading authoritative voice in the Christian community.
Recently, his Church Greater Emmanuel Institutional COGIC hosted VP Kamala Harris in her presidential quest.
Moreover, the Church of GOD in Christ has continued to pour investment in the community, including Memphis and the Mid-South, its international home.
However, leadership under Bishop Sheard has not come without issues.
He's had to manage a few vocal and powerful bishops who seem to capture headlines with their vitriol, thereby threatening to tarnish the reputation of the Church of God in Christ.
Moreover, Bishop Heard has had to deal with the City of Memphis, which has been struggling to accommodate attendance during the COGIC Annual Holy Convocations. This year, some bishops floated the idea of moving Holy Convocation to St. Louis.
Finally, Bishop Sheard has had to find ways to shore up the financial coffers of the Church while many in the nation deal with economic hardship.
Despite the huge responsibility of leading the 13,000-congregation denomination, Bishop Sheard remains resolute.
He issued the following statement after winning re-election: “It is an honor to serve once again as the presiding bishop of the Church Of God In Christ, Inc. I am humbled and deeply committed to furthering our mission of faith, community service, and spiritual guidance for our millions of members around the globe.”
Congratulations to Bishop Sheard on a second term as Presiding Bishop!
