Jada Samuel Wins Miss South Carolina Pageant, becoming only 4th Black woman to win title

Jada Samuel has been crowned Miss South Carolina 2023!


The pageant took place on Saturday June 24 at the Township Auditorium in Columbia.


Jada becomes only the 4th Black woman to claim the title from the state.


Other African-American winners include Daja Dial who was crowned in 2015.


Crystal Garrett became the second African-American to win the title in 2007.


Kimberly Aiken, who became the first African-American to win the title in 1993, went on to win the Miss America pageant.


Jada Samuel is a digital strategist from Greenville, South Carolina and represented as Miss Bridge City. For her talent, she re-enacted one of Angela Bassett's acceptance speeches.


For her interview, Jada spoke to the importance of service and mentorship of young girls.


The Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization, Inc. is one of the largest provider of scholarships to young women in the state.


As the winner, Jada won $60,000 and will now compete in the Miss America pageant.
