In a shocking announcement, Grammy-winning group, Maverick City Music, announced on Instagram that they would be parting ways with longtime group member Dante Bowe.
The reason given was unclear, but the post stated "Due to behavior that is inconsistent with our core values and beliefs, we have decided to put a pause on our professional relationship with Dante Bowe."
Since its 2019 debut, Maverick City Music has been rising steadily in popularity. Kirk Franklin even declared the group the "future of gospel music." They have already won a Grammy with Elevation Music, and they are nominated currently for eight Dove Awards.
They've been selling out arenas worldwide during their recent tour.
It is unclear why the group decided to issue a public announcement versus discussing the break-up privately. One example is to pre-empt questions considering that Dante is one of the lead singers on a number of their songs, including "Wait on You" and "Take Me Back."
Dante Bowe had received success also performing solo with the hit song "Joyful," which won the Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel Recorded Song in 2021. He was also nominated for a Grammy for the same song.
Dante recently responded on social media by saying, "I’ll be taking time off social media to rest mentally and physically. Years ago, when I dreamt of all I would accomplish one day, I didn’t account for the pressure and opinions that would come with it. It’s important for everyone to know when to step back and refocus. Hope y’all understand and support."
Other members of Maverick City Music include Chandler Moore, Naomi Raine , Brandon Lake, Maryanne J. George, Aaron Moses, Harold Brown, Joe L Barnes, and Lizzie Morgan.
Hopefully they will be able to reconcile. If not, hopefully Dante Bowe will be able to have a successful career as a solo artist.
