Pastor Marvin Winans has finally broken ground on his promised church campus at 7 Mile & Woodward in Detroit.
In June 2023, Pastor Winans and the city of Detroit reached a deal to resume construction of a new mega-church on Detroit's north side.
The proposed church campus is slated to house a new 4,200-seat church, a 35,000 square-foot administration building, and a 1,000 square-foot parking structure.
The stalled church campus at 19150 Woodward Avenue had been under "construction" for nearly twenty years.
The city of Detroit sued the famous pastor, alleging that the abandoned property had become a public nuisance. The city's lawsuit alleged Winans was personally liable. The city requested that Winans correct violations, including dilapidated fencing, overgrown vegetation and burrows indicating rodents.
The city sold the land to the church and approved zoning changes for the project in 2004, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit, filed in January 2023 in Wayne County Circuit Court, was first reported by Axios.
Despite nearly two decades of neglect, Pastor Marvin Winans and his Perfecting Church finally broke ground on March 5, 2024, thus keeping its promise to the city.
Pastor Marvin Winans is a member of the famous Winans family. He founded Perfecting Church in 1989 in Detroit, Michigan in the basement of his home. Since then, church membership has grown exponentially with Winans serving as the Bishop of Perfecting Fellowship International, a global consortium of churches. Each year, Perfecting Fellowship International hosts an annual Holy Convocation for its global community of pastors and churches.
